The Parallax USB Oscilloscope Software v5.1.1 is a complete rewrite, not an update of the 4.0 software, and includes many improvements as shown in the lists below. This version is Windows XP, Vista, and 7 compatible.Please note that this software is not compatible with the Understanding Signals v1.0 text, nor does it have the FFT or zoom features of the 4.0 software. If you require these features, please use USB Oscilloscope Software v4.0 (requires Windows 2K/XP).

If you wish to use the newer V5.1 software, please visit the Parallax USB Oscilloscope software v5.1. Please note that the V4.0.0 software only runs on Windows XP/2000.

Installing the Version 4.0 Software:
- Install the software by clicking on this link Oscilloscope Setup Software 4.0 (.exe) and following the Install Wizard directions. The required Windows XP/2000 compatible VCP Drivers can be installed/updated by the installer.
- Connect the Parallax USB Oscilloscope hardware to your computer’s USB port.
- NOTE: You will get the best results if your Parallax USB Oscilloscope is the only device connected to the root, because this device is powered from the USB port. If you need to have other devices connected that are also powered from the same USB port, we recommend you purchase a powered USB hub.

Running the Software for the First Time: (These instructions replace those found in the README files)
Audio Oscilloscope Software
- In your computer’s Device Manager, look under Ports (Com& LPT) and note the number assigned to the new USB serial port.
- Run the Parallax USB Oscilloscope software from the desktop icon, or from Start → Parallax USB Oscilloscope → USB Oscilloscope4.0.0.
- Click anywhere on the software identification window to open the interface.
- From the menu bar, select File → Set COM Port to open the window shown below.
- In the Selected COM Port field, enter the COM port number that you identified as the new USB serial port. When the correct COM port number is entered, the dot indicator below the field will turn from red to green.
- If you wish, follow the prompts to calibrate your probes.
